Memories
have a funny way of showing up when you need them. Well, sometimes, the wrong memories can show up
like an uninvited guest. You must do
your best to help them move along their way.
However, those good memories, those happy memories, those once-in-a-lifetime
memories, you invite them In and ask them to stay a while.
Lately,
ever since we’ve been limited in our day to day due to this huge pandemic
called COVID-19, it makes it hard for me to be able to do the things I love to
do. I’ve spent so much time inside, with
myself. It’s not like I have any shortage
of memories with my grandparents or of my life in general, it’s just something about
not being able to live your “normal” daily life, that really starts to take its
toll. So, I’ve taking my fair share down
memory lane; stopping to talk to each memory I encounter along the way.
Before the
world stopped and everything closed, I manage to get my old guitar back up and
running. It’s not like I used it a lot
or remember how to play, however, the few notes I do remember; I play with so
much conviction! Each time I touch my
guitar I just think of my grandfather and how he would play for me. I’ve mentioned it before how he would sing to
me when I was sick and of all the songs he sang, the one which stuck with me
the most was “You Are My Sunshine” and every time I touch my guitar, I think of
that song. When I was young, I thought
he wrote that song for me because I had never heard it before.
I hope by
the time we come out of the other end of this troubled time in our world, that
I’ve learned so much more. Not only in
the sense of this guitar, but about myself and how to increase the greatness of
those around me.
